A Roofing contractor has the experience, knowledge, and skill to install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, design, when not prohibited by law, and use materials and items for the installation, maintenance, extension, and alteration of all kinds of roofing, waterproofing, and coating except when coating is not represented to protect, repair, waterproof, stop leaks, or extend the life of the roof.

You must also meet one of the following requirements: 4 years of experience in the trade with at least 1 year having been supervisory work OR A 4 year construction-related degree from an accredited college and 1 year proven experience applicable to the category for which you are applying OR 1 year as a foreman and not less than 3 years of credits from any accredited college level courses OR 1 year as a workman, 1 year proven experience as a foreman, and 2 years of credits from any accredited college level courses OR 2 years of experience as a workman, 1 year of experience as a foreman, and 1 year of credits from any accredited college level courses OR Have an active Certified Florida contactor’s license (This option only applies to Certified Building, Residential, Air Conditioning, and Swimming Pool contractors as provided in Section 489.111 (2)(c)4-6, Florida Statutes).

contractors license feesThe fee for the examination is $135. If you are applying between June 4th of an even year and August 31st of an odd year, the license will be $409. If you are applying between September 1st of an odd year and June 3rd of an even year, the license will cost $309. If you paid $354 and submitted your examination application before February 11, 2003, your fee will be $209 and $109 respectively. Applicants are also required to provide a credit report and financial statement that is no more than 12 months old. A net worth of $2,500 - $20,000 (depending on classification) is required. The minimum general liability insurance that is required for licensure is $300,000 for bodily injury and $50,000 for property damage.

 

Florida Roofing Contractors Exam Details

 

contractor exam detailed informationFlorida requires that all contractors pass Business and Finance portion of their exam. This exam must be taken in addition to the contractors related roofing exam. You will be scheduled for the examination date and site that you selected on your application. A score of at least 70% is required to pass the exams. The exam is 2 days, open book, multiple-choice, and timed. The time limit for each exam portion is 4 hours and 45 minutes. Exams are held 6 times per year in February, April, June, August, October, and December. Test locations are in Orlando, Tallahassee, and Miami.

Florida Contractors License Reciprocity

 

contractors license reciprocityFlorida has no reciprocity agreements. Out-of-state contractors are required to pass the Florida examination for certification. More info here. There is a provision for certification by endorsement; however, it requires that the applicant demonstrate that his/her out-of-state license was issued based upon an examination that is substantially equivalent to Florida's examination.
