arkansas General Contractors License Information
arkansas requires that you also pass the standard business law exam
The State of Arkansas requires a contractors license for all commercial and residential construction work of $20,000 or more. Pre-approval is required from the board before sitting for the examination. For commercial contractors, applicants must have 5 years of experience and submit a CPA or RPA audited financial statement. A surety bond of $10,000 must also be filed. For residential contractors, applicants must have 4 years of experience and submit a completed financial statement. After the application is approved the State Licensing Board will notify you of a testing date. The examination fee is $35 for the paper-pencil exam or $75 for the computerized exam. It will cost you $100 nonrefundable to file an application for a commercial license. The commercial license is good for one year. The residential application and license fee is $100. The license is good for one year. Pre-Approval for examinations is required for Electrical, Plumbing and HVAC classifications. General contractors must first pass the required exams before submitting an application to the licensing board. The examination has a 70% minimum score required to pass.
